Seriously? What ARE You Going To Do With The Rest Of Your Life?

In partnership with

Hey there …

Many women reach a turning point in life where they can't help but think about the need for change and a new sense of purpose.

Let me introduce you to Diana, a woman who found herself in this exact situation a few years ago.

One day, while chatting with her son about his future plans, he turned the tables and asked her, "Mom, what about you? What are you going to do for the rest of your life?"

This question haunted her for days, forcing her to reflect on her own life and career. She realized that she had never taken the time to truly consider it.

At 48 years old, Diana had always been a medical receptionist and dedicated her time to taking care of her family.

But now that her kids were grown and one was heading off to college, she began to dream about her passions and what she could do.

She let her mind wander, and just like her son, she entertained the idea of studying the universe and becoming an astrophysicist.

Of course, she initially dismissed this idea as a joke. After all, she hadn't even finished high school, let alone gone to college.

Diana kept her dream a secret, too embarrassed to share it with anyone except her son.

But something inside her pushed her to take action.

She enrolled in night school and obtained her high school diploma.

From there, she earned a place at college and pursued a science degree, majoring in physics.

She didn't stop there. Diana's determination led her to be accepted into a PhD program in astrophysics.

And the story doesn't end there either.

Just after graduating with her PhD, she was offered a one-year fellowship at NASA.

Can you believe it? Diana became a NASA Space Scientist.

Looking back, Diana recalls one thing that gave her the confidence to start was her memory of being good at math in school. She also remembered her ability to mentally keep track of the cost of groceries in her shopping cart.

From humble beginnings, Diana's journey proves that it's never too late to pursue your dreams and create your own narrative.

Did you know?

After years of gaining experience and wisdom, a transitional phase begins.

A yearning to pursue passions, particularly for women who have dedicated themselves to family and career.

The prospect of changing careers can be both exciting and daunting.

The familiarity of a current job, the security it provides, and the routines it has established over the years can create a barrier to stepping into the unknown.

However, remaining in a job or business that no longer ignites the soul can be stifling.

Many women in their 40s and 50s are reinventing themselves after spending most of their lives in one career.

Take Katie, for example, a respected architect at the top of her field.

Despite her success, she couldn't shake the feeling of unfulfillment in that role. After 30 years of running her own architecture business, she suddenly realized she no longer wanted to be an architect.

With a desire to bring positivity into the world through her passion for dance, Katie made the bold decision to set up a dance studio.

So, how do we pivot in midlife?

The key is to trust in our own abilities and believe that it's never too late to pursue our passions. It's about finding the courage to follow our hearts and create a new narrative for ourselves.

Deep Dive:

If you're feeling like it's time for a midlife refresh, here are some tips to help you along the way. Let's apply the steps of change, following the Human Behaviour Change Model, to pivoting in midlife.

Step 1: Not Thinking About It (Precontemplation)

At this stage, you're not even considering a change. Your job or business may be comfortable, but deep down, you know it's not bringing you true happiness anymore.

Step 2: Starting to Think (Contemplation)

Then, out of the blue, something triggers your thoughts. It could be a conversation with a stranger, a podcast, a movie, a book, or an article. Suddenly, you start to wonder if there's something else out there for you.

Step 3: Getting Ready (Preparation)

You begin to do some research and dive deep into what you would truly love to do. You set small goals, like taking a course or talking to people in the industry you're interested in.

Step 4: Making a Start (Action)

Now, you're actively working towards your new goal. You might enrol in a more detailed course, update your resume, gain work experience, or apply for a new job.

If entrepreneurship is your passion, you might even start your own business in the field you love.

Step 5: Keeping it Going (Maintenance)

You're doing what you've always wanted to do. You love it, and you're committed to continuous learning and growth. This stage is all about sticking with it and striving for improvement.

Step 6: Embracing the Change (Fulfillment)

Eventually, you become so skilled and comfortable in your new career that it feels like second nature. You have fully transitioned into your dream life, embracing the change with open arms.

Remember, it's never too late to follow your passion and pivot your career. So go ahead, take that leap and create the life you've always dreamed of.

Why You Should Become a NEAT Freak!

One of the most overlooked ways to stay in shape is to increase our NEAT … which is Non-Exercise Activity Thermogenesis.

NEAT is the energy we expend for everything we do that is not sleeping, eating or sports-like exercise.

It includes activities such as walking, gardening, cleaning, and even fidgeting.

NEAT varies greatly among people and has a significant impact on energy balance, health and fat loss.

The more NEAT, the better!

We came across a form of NEAT that seems really fun and thought you might really like the idea: learning to dance at home 💃

Check out this ‘learn to dance at home’ education program and become a NEAT freak.
